There Are More Reasons to Serve God than Just Going to Heaven…

My relationship with Jesus is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. It isn’t perfect (on my end), but my life has become one of the most adventurous, purposeful, and has had more worth and meaning since I decided to stop fighting and running. But I didn’t just fall in love for Heaven. I didn’t just decide to be on His team just to save myself from going to hell. Those are both great reasons, but they weren’t the number one reasons. Getting saved just so you won’t go to hell is not a good enough reason. It’s a reason, but you miss the totality of who He is and all that He can be while you’re alive!

Being with Jesus has given me and shown me a love like no other. He makes me want to be better. I want to be a better Allyson because I love Him and I want Him to have the best of me.

In the past, when I would make dumb decisions, I wouldn’t think twice about them. It was what I wanted to do and I did it. With Jesus, He at least makes me think twice before doing something dumb or something that would me in a negative way. I think twice because He’s always on my mind, whether I know it or not. I want to please Him. I want Him to smile at me.

In my lowest moments, He always understands. He listens. If I can’t talk to anyone, He is the one I run to. It’s a beautiful love we have. He showed me my purpose. He showed me who I was born to be so I wouldn’t keep wandering, doing things that didn’t align with my destiny. He knows me. The very essence of who I am. Even the places and pieces I don’t get, He does. The ugly parts of my He embraces and showers with His love. He loves me through my pain. Catches every tear. Puts me in my place when I’m wrong and loves me as I make it right.

And these reasons and examples are just the tip of the iceberg. Make the decision to serve God and enjoy His presence NOW. Heaven will always be there, but knowing and having the ability to know and love God while you’re still alive is a joy all is own. He will lead and guide you and love you to the core of your being. There are sides of Him you’ve never even touched.

Get to know God for who He is now,  so that when you do get to Heaven, your praise and worship will be even greater because you know in this life and when you see Him face to face, that’s He’s the almighty, wonderful, amazing God you’ve always known.

He’s full of hope, joy and love. If you’re looking for any of those, please, look to Him.

So You WANT To Be A Loser?

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. ~Marianne Williamson

Why do we voluntarily want to be losers? Why do we chose to be less than what we were created to be?

We work jobs just to pay bills. We tolerate awful relationships so that we won’t be lonely. We hang out with people whose vision is just as invisible as ours is… and yet we convince ourselves that we are doing great.

The quote above is one of my favorites. I’ve posted it in a previous post, but it always rings in my head. We’re afraid of our own power! We’re afraid that we are greater than we could ever imagine. We’re scared to step outside of the box we’ve been placed in because we won’t be with our friends or families. We want to be comfortable inside the box because that’s where everyone else is. But what good is that doing for you? You regret half the decisions you make, you’re angry with yourself for not doing better, and most of the time you don’t even like your life! DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

I don’t know about yall, but I’m tired of living just to be living. I’m tired of not making a great impact on the world around me. Who knows what will happen when I decide to live out my purpose and change the world around me? Who knows if when I step out and decide to be great, that others will believe that they too can be great?

WE CAN ALL BE GREAT!! We are filled with the amazing power of the Holy Spirit, which is God inside of us!

I’m talking about the same God that created the earth. I’m talking about the same God that gave Moses the power to part the sea. I’m talking about the same God who created every single person on this earth, whether they want to admit it or not. I’m talking about the same God who knew how to craft women’s bodies to birth a child on the inside. I’m talking about the same God that created all the different types of flowers, trees, birds, animals, fish, foods, and people.

That God lives on the inside of you and I! Which means that we have access to all that power! We can change nations! We can change lives! We can create and affect the places around us! We have the power to do so!

So why do we live mediocre, safe lives? Why are we afraid?

Let’s do better! Step outside of that comfort zone. Step out from among those who aren’t trying to do anything but eat, sleep, work, and die. Let’s stop pushing everyone else’s vision and make everyone else money, and let’s push our own vision and make our own money!

Stop Being a Loser.

Why Do You Do What You Do?

Isaiah 29:13 AMP

And the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near Me with their mouth and honor Me with their lips but remove their hearts and minds far from Me, and their fear and reverence for Me are a commandment of men that is learned by repetition [without any thought as to the meaning]

Why do you do what you do when it comes to God? Or even when it comes to your family, friends, spouse, and even yourself?

Is most of what you do or partake in because of something you learned and did because the person in front of you or on the television said was the right thing to do?  Did you run it by God to see if He even likes that?

Think about the cliché phrases we use in church. “Praises go up,  blessings come down”. We sit around quoting it like it’s the Word and it isn’t!  But we keep quoting it in our sermons because the preacher before us did.

What we say and do has become the norm in our churches and our lives… but only because we’ve been told it was the right thing to do AND because its what has always been done.

Within my generation, I hope to break down some of the religious repetition in our churches that brings NO FRUIT to the body of Christ. It’s time that we stopped the foolishness in the church. Its not saving anyone nor is it bringing any of our peers in our generation to Christ. Let’s stop being churchy for 5min to discuss the condition of our souls and our churches. We are the ones who have to carry the church on after our pastors and leaders die or retire. We honor and respect them for all they did,  but we’re being called to go HIGHER!
God is calling us higher! He wants to do MORE in our lifetime. More experiences, more miracles, signs, and wonders. Let’s break the cycle and move into the NEWNESS of God!

Psalm 40:3 AMP

And He has put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many shall see and fear (revere and worship) and put their trust and confident reliance in the Lord. [Ps. 5:11.]

Top Five: Review and Wake-Up Call

I regret to inform you that this is not a positive review. :shrugs:

From the advertisements seen and the posters displayed, the movie looked to simply be funny. We haven’t seen Chris Rock on the scene in a while, so many, like myself and my husband expected the movie to be funny. Before all the nonsense occurred there were times we laughed, but the movie was a lightweight porn. Let’s just keep it all the way live. There was one scene in the movie that was completely unnecessary and completely sickening. It was a flashback to a part of the character Andre Allen’s (Rock) life where he said he was his lowest. There were two women that came back to his hotel room, ate with him, then got drunk, got naked and had sex. It showed Andre having sex with these women, then showed Cedric the Entertainer doing the same thing. It was the only flashback in the movie. It honestly could have been left out because it really added no great impact to the story line. Then there was the strip club scene and all of the cussing and calling women out of their names throughout the movie. This unnecessary use of nudity and cursing brought down the whole effect the movie was supposed to have. So NO, I would NOT suggest going to see it.

Lately, I’ve been irritated with the way women are portrayed and being treated by society. We are props to movies like these. Before the movie came on, there was a preview with more nudity in it! Pretty soon, all movies will be riding that fine line between a movie being entertainment and it being a porn. Eventually, porn will become the norm on the big screen. WAKE UP! This is where we are headed if we don’t do something about it! It all starts with the revealing of a woman’s body. Not a male’s body parts, but a woman. Women are continuously used as props to make a movie dirty and somewhat entertaining. There is no respect. There is no compassion.

I was even more shocked that the co-producers on the project were Jay-Z and Kanye West. Both who have recently married and have young daughters. Yet they chose to participate in the filming of this project and who knows what else. It saddens me to think that their wives and especially their daughters have not changed something within them to want to do right by women and publicly show their respect for them. No I’m not talking about buying them gifts and kissing them in front of the paparazzi. I’m talking about showing respect for all women by taking some type of stand. What if North and Blue Ivy decided that they want to get involved in a movie where they show their bodies? How would they feel then? Would they co-produce that movie?

Unfortunately, it isn’t just the fault of men. Ladies we have A LOT of work to do. Where is our value? What have we done with ourselves? Have we gotten to a place so low within ourselves that our 8-10 minutes of fame will be our behind on camera twerking or some man fondling our breasts? What examples are we setting for our babies, both boys and girls? Are we telling our girls that it’s okay to shake your behind on camera? Are we telling our boys that it’s okay to call us out of our name and use our bodies for their pleasures outside of marriage? I mean WHAT?!?!?! No longer am I to the point where I will discuss how sickened I am about the women that do this. Now I’m to the point where I just want to pray for them. I pray that they find their purpose in life. I pray that God reveals to them the beauty that they possess. I pray that He gives them their purity back and helps them to maintain it.

Let 2015 be the year you don’t compromise on this.

Men, don’t get involved in or treat women like props and animals. Treat them like the Queens they are.

Ladies, reinstate your royalty. You are not a piece of meat. You are not your body. You have purpose in this life that extends beyond your backside and your breasts.

It’s time to stop this MESS. Stop making excuses for why you do the things you do. It’s time for CHANGE!

How to REALLY be NEW in the New Year

We all know the usual sayings.

“This year, I’m going to be a whole new person.”

“This year, I’m acting brand new”

We’ve all said it. We’ve all made plans on New Year’s Eve to be brand new in the New Year. Then the second week comes in January and we’re back to the same old tricks, talking to the same old people, making the same old mistakes. It happens. Why?

We use our own strength and ability to try to be “new” The issue is that when we use our own strength to try and undo what we’ve done for so long, we fail. Some of the habits we’ve created and gotten wrapped up in have become who we are. Whether it’s smoking, hanging with the wrong type of people, getting drunk, or sleeping around, those habits and ways of life were not created overnight. They formulated themselves over time. So it will take more than our strength and ability to get us out of the mess we’ve put ourselves in. If all we needed was our strength to make it through and become new when we wanted to, we wouldn’t have to make the same declaration every year. We need Jesus. There I said it. 🙂

We’ve got to get to the point where we get sick of going through the same cycles over and over again.

Don’t we get tired of crying the same ol’ tears? Don’t we get tired of going through the same issues and saying the same things over and over? Why do we want to keep going through the same things all the time? We obviously can’t do it alone because we keep having the same problems!

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

~ 2 Corinthians 5:17

Notice how this scripture talks about being new! We all say we want to be new, and here it is. We become new creatures. All the old is gone and everything becomes new! But the first part of the scripture says “If any man be in Christ” That means that Christ is in the equation for us to be new creatures.

I know that from my past issues with lust and fornication, I couldn’t have done it without Christ. Why? Because it was something my body liked to do. It was something I liked to do. But when I started praying for His grace and mercy, His strength came into the equation and my life changed. I became brand new! But I didn’t and couldn’t have done it without Him.

So if you’re struggling or within a cycle you want to get out of, or if you’re simply trying to be brand new for the new year, add Christ to the equation and watch how Christ works.

Don’t believe me, just watch 🙂

How Did I Get Here?

I been slackin…. But I have a good reason this time

:drumroll: I am now a resident of Baltimore, MD!!!! :does dance:

So my husband and I are corps members for Teach for America and we’ll both be teaching Elementary School in just a few short weeks! Crazy right?

I’ve continuously just thought about how I got here, and I can honestly say I have no clue… But I DO know that I got here by the grace and plans of God and God alone. Everything going on in my life right now I never dreamed of, thought of, spoke… nada. Everyday is a big shock to me as to where I am and how I got here. To be able to say that I am going to have a full time job impacting the lives of students, receiving a salary in Baltimore, MD with my husband of almost two years is still mind blowing to me.

This time two years ago, I was heading back to graduate school, still planning on being an opera singer, while in the back of my mind knowing that something else was out there for me. Those few thoughts that something else was out there for me was simply the planting of seeds to get me to where I am now. All I had to do was take that step. But it wasn’t easy. I told my mom today that when I left graduate school, it was like jumping off of a cliff into a foggy area down below with a still, small voice saying “Just jump. I got you”… and that voice being God. It’s never easy doing it either. But when God has proved Himself so much to you in your life, you literally have no excuse when God simply asks you to Jump. He never forces you and ultimately leaves the choice in your hand. But when you’ve lived a life full of God simply taking GREAT care of you, it makes you want to jump… especially when it means becoming and doing all that you were created to be and do.

You capable of more than your present situation right now. Even if you don’t have a degree in it . YOU CAN DO IT!

Our world tells us that if we didn’t go to school for it, take a class in it, attend a seminar on it that we can’t do it. BUT I’m here to tell you that THAT is a LIE. If God has purposed you for it, you can do it. He will and has given you the grace and everything you need to move forward to be the BEST you He purposed you to be. But it’s not just for you, it’s for the others in this world you’re meant to touch and help to become their best selves as well.

I can’t tell you how excited I am to begin this school year to teach these amazing 1st graders not just math and science, but how to be their best selves. I’m excited to see what God has in store for me and my Mr. here in this city of Baltimore, MD. We’re ready to work and be all that God has created us to be!

Pray for us!
